Fachhochschule Dortmund cycles strongly for the climate

Published

In a good mood after successful city cycling: Students and employees of Fachhochschule Dortmund at the internal award ceremony at SQuArE.

The Fachhochschule Dortmund has set an exclamation mark at "Stadtradeln 2026" in Dortmund. With the largest team to date, students and employees braved the rather wet weather. This saved well over a tonne of CO2. The most diligent mileage collectors were honored at an internal award ceremony.

For three weeks, the motto at Fachhochschule Dortmund was: pedal hard for health, the community and the climate. In the nationwide "City Cycling" campaign, which promotes the switch to bicycles and the expansion of safe cycle paths, the University of Applied Sciences was once again at the start in 2026 - and more successfully than ever before. 49 active cyclists formed the largest UAS team to date.

Although May often showed its uncomfortable side, the university members did not let it spoil their spirits. In the end, a total of 8,166 kilometers were added to the FH account. A proud result, which is also noticeable in terms of climate protection: the equivalent of 1,339 kilograms of CO2 were avoided by not using the car.

More than 700 kilometers at the top

The FH community celebrated their joint success at a small internal award ceremony. In addition to praise, recognition and applause, the top cyclists also received small gifts.

Paul Hönicka leads the individual ranking. The photography student, who is also active in university sports, covered an impressive 724.4 kilometers as a passionate racing cyclist. Julian Enßler, Head of the Photography Workshop at the Faculty of Design, was close behind with an equally outstanding 696.1 kilometers. The bronze medal went to Frauke Albrecht from the Department of Studies and International Affairs, who contributed a strong 399.5 kilometers.

The Library+ takes the team win

Small trophy

There was also real team spirit to marvel at in the team ranking: the colleagues from "Bibliothek+" formed the most successful internal FH sub-team. Ten members of staff set off together and covered an impressive 1,400 kilometers.

"The response this year was even greater than last year," says Ann-Kathrin Zobel happily. She is the health manager at Fachhochschule Dortmund. Under these circumstances, a 10,000-kilometer mark for the Fachhochschule Dortmund city cycling team seems within reach next year.
