Dr. Kim Lauenroth is part of the teaching team that planned the Digital Design course.

Digital change is reshaping the world, but who is shaping digital change? The future graduates of the new Digital Design study program starting in September 2024 at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts will find out.

Software, data and user interfaces can be designed in the same way as other products - and not just so that they look good, but so that they are usable, technically feasible, economically viable and sustainable in the best sense of the word.

In the new Master's degree course, students learn to create excellent digital solutions and systems. Digital designers are in demand, for example, in software development, in strategic counseling with regard to digitalization and digital business models as well as in specific industries such as retail, logistics, public administration and insurance.

Digital Design combines knowledge and methods from the two worlds of computer science and design. The content is divided into four areas. Design theory provides skills in form, function and quality. Construction theory conveys an understanding of development processes. Design theory deals with the development of digital solutions. Finally, materials science imparts knowledge about digital technologies.
