AI in care - current technological developments in care

Published

An event entitled "AI in care" took place on September 18. It was organized by IDiAL and mpool consulting GmbH as part of the "Di-PAS st" project (social participation in health and care through digital assistance systems) and "Care for (Your) Future" in cooperation with Grone Pflegefachschule Dortmund.

The focus was on the question of how artificial intelligence and digital assistance systems can provide useful support, particularly for practical instructors in nursing.

Ansgar Rahmacher (mpool consulting GmbH) as well as Marcel Mitas and Leon Sachweh (both Fachhochschule Dortmund IDiAL) presented current technical developments in the plenary session.

Applications that can be used for digital care documentation and AI translation assistants that can break down language barriers in day-to-day care have met with particularly great interest.

Many participants were enthusiastic about the possibilities of VR glasses. Especially with regard to games that promote movement or the perception of other places, which is particularly interesting for people with physical disabilities or dementia. Trying them out in practice led to a better understanding and increased enthusiasm among the participants.

At the end of the day, the participants learned about various possible applications of AI and digital assistance systems and how they can sustainably improve the quality of care and nursing training.

Among other things, this can be achieved by relieving care staff of routine tasks and communicating with non-native speakers, as the event demonstrated.

Di-PAS st is a research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the European Union via the European Social Fund Plus in the Change in Work program (funding code WAN-1-0028).
